Feed-in-tariff (FiT)

  • The Feed-In Tariff (FiT) is a government's electricity buy back scheme that allows the owner of a Solar PV system to get paid for all the energy they produce, even if they use it themselves. It has the advantage that for domestic users it is tax free, index linked and guaranteed for 20 years.
  • Below is a complete listing of the generation tariff levels for Solar PV from November 2012:

Energy SourceScaleTariff (p/kWh)Duration (years)
Solar PV ≤4 kW new 15.44p 20
Solar PV ≤4 kW retrofit 15.44p 20
Solar PV >4-10kW 13.99p 20
Solar PV >10 - 50kW 13.03p 20
Solar PV >50 - 100kW 11.50p 20
Solar PV >150 - 250kW 11.50p 20
Solar PV >250kW - 5MW 7.10p 20
Solar PV Standalone 7.10p 20
  • With the average benefit for a 4 kWp plant, incorporating the saving from fuel bills and the FIT being approximately £1000/year Solar PV is a great opportunity to take advantage of.

FAQs

Does my roof have to be exactly south facing?

No it does not, even if your roof/land is south-west or south-east you can still produced high yields and a large amount of your own green energy.

Do I have to have the panels on my roof?

No you do not, we offer PV systems that are ground mounted also.

Do I need planning permission?

Most properties do not need planning permission, but you should contact your Local Authority at an early stage to establish the situation for your specific project.

Does the pitch of my roof have to be 40 degrees?

No, you can still produce a large amount of energy if your roof is above or below 40 degrees. We also offer flat roof mounted systems.

Will Solar PV work in a British winter?

Solar panels work on the intensity of light received, therefore a panel only requires daylight to start converting energy. So even on overcast days with little sunshine, the daylight means that your producing green energy regardless.
